I love this restaurant; the food is yummy, the price is affordable, the portions are on the large side and the casual atmosphere is enjoyable. The food is fresh, organic and has a good balance of veggies, noodles/ rice and protein.
Some of my favorites are: Spicy Dan's Peanut Delight, Laughing Phoenix, Sesame noodle Salid, and Ginger beef (as a side).
They also allow us to bring our small dog in the patio area, so when we have him we always know where to go.

Negative Charlie Hong Kong Santa Cruz Review:
I gave this place a shot because I heard mixed reviews about it. I noticed my white friends loved it and my asian friends.... well hated it. And now I can see why... Honestly, this is not real Asian food. Its a typical Santa Cruz place that offers vegetarian and organic items... And is a FUSION of Caucasian/Asian cuisine = not enough flavor.
If you keep in mind...
1. Don't expect it to be authentic because its not!!
2. The place offers healthier Asian alternatives -meaning they add more veggies to the plate and offer brown rice.
3. Spicy to regular people= not spicy at all (meaning the spicy dan, is NOT spicy!!! but you can add sriracha/rooster sauce)
4. Their bottles of hoisin, sriracha, etc... should not be like that... its watered down!!! (WTF!!!! i guess they are trying to save money or trying to not give as much flavor?? )
...but if you do keep that in mind, you might like it.

This place was pretty good but not extremely impressive. I had heard from several people that would rant and rave about Charlie Hong Kong and it did not impress me as far as getting my food and what came out of the kitchen. It was good food but not the greatest in terms of Chinese Food. The price was fairly decent and I really liked the fact that they had a great variety of foods.
