Hoffman´s Santa Cruz - Summary:
(from MetroActive.com) - Morning visitors to Hoffman's can get fresh baked pastries and coffee, or sit down to a full breakfast of eggs and cafe potatoes or an omelette, served with Hoffman's famous scones. A favorite of the lunch crowd is the grilled salmon over fresh greens.
"We want to provide healthful trends in baked products and cuisine," says Ed. "My wife goes to the farmers market on Wednesdays and we try to get a lot of that on our menu."
The dinner selection includes such diverse fare as a Black and Bleu Ahi appetizer, served rare with sautéed red bell peppers and macadamia nuts, and Oahu Bouillabaise--Hawaiian-style shellfish stew. The most popular dish, though, is June's Homemade Meatloaf.
Morning baked goods, creative cakes and amazing dinners--above all, Ed and June Hoffman want their customers to feel happy. "Come in on a Friday night and settle down with a chocolate torte while you listen to the jazz," Ed says. "It's kind of over-the-top decadent, but chocolate is really good with merlot."

Positive Hoffman´s Santa Cruz Review:
good food, not great. Great service for shore.. I will go back again. I will admit that I am a VERY hard critic becuase I am a manager of a casual fine dining restaurant. THe food honestly is worth going there for, and the desert is awsome. Our server was very knowledgeable and VERY polite... wish I recalled his name. We brought our own wine and the were cool with that. (NOTE: always tip a little extra if the house waves corkage.)
the crabcakes were super.. we did get a LITTLE shell, but I would totally get them again. The prawns and grits were great but my GF thought they needed salt... I though they were great as is.. she also liked them.
All in all, go to this place, good food, great service.... awsome patio seating.

Negative Hoffman´s Santa Cruz Review:
Ehh...not such a fan. Here's the thing; the bakery is great. They have good pastries and cakes and all that. But the sit-down part of the restaurant is overpriced and the servers are lazy. A friend and I stopped by for lunch today, and neither of us felt that our service made our mediocre $12.00 sandwiches worth the price or the time we spent waiting for everything. After not being given waters or menus for over ten minutes (and the restaurant was empty save for our table and two others) we finally decided to retrieve our own menus from the hostess station. Bottom line: stop in next time you want to take a little treat home, but if you're looking for a nice sit-down dining experience, head elsewher

Average Hoffman´s Santa Cruz Review:
I have been there for lunch and breakfast, and I must say breakfast at Hoffman's is much better. The basket of scones was delicious, and the seafood fritatta was satisfying yet not too heavy.
The service is a bit iffy, but pleasant enough that it wasn't a big issue.
I would not suggest the white chocolate cheesecake. It was boring, and nothing special or unique about it.
I have to warn you tho, the scones are so delicious, it is hard to be satisfied with scones from other places anymore.
