(from MetroActive.com, by Christina Waters) - DINNER AT PALAPAS RESTAURANT always feels to me like a cruise down to Zihuatanejo. Seafood is treated with style, and the sensuous rhythms of the Mexican riviera filter through California coastal attitudes. The Palapas restaurant & bar terrace was filled with convivial diners, backlit attractively by the setting sun as we took a table last week.
It's impossible not to feel pampered in this setting. Lush tropical plants, adobe and tile wraparound booths and a menu designed to plunge you into the Pacific Rim's finest flavors--everybody seems to feel welcome here, from the upscale weekend crowd to families with children.
A hardworking staff does a great job accommodating every need. A basket of fresh, crisp chips was instantly produced, joined by a spicy, well-made salsa. There are ample wines and beers to chose from at Palapas bar, but few tequila lovers can get past the restaurant's astonishing inventory of agave elixir.
Sauza, Patron, Herradura, Minero--all your favorites plus scores you've never heard of are available.

I live very close by to Palapas and I love the atmosphere and patio at this place. My husband and I love to come here for some quick food and appetizers. The drinks are also very good but the food is very expensive for what you get. I guess thats what you get for being close by to Seascape Resort. Other than that this place is highly recommended to try it out for yourself.

I have to say this place has great food. The price you pay for it is HORRENDOUS service. Between the air headed high school girls and the crappy management that hires them, its not necessarily worth it.
Ordering to go is a joke. The girls are not familiar with their menu enough to take an order. Guarantee when you pick up your order, something will be missing or they just plain got it wrong.
A mexican restaurant charges for chips, tortillas, and salsa.
If you want horrendous service but good food, by all means...go to Palapas.

Disappointing--the highlight of our $130.00 lunch there was the view! The food was cold and marginal at best. And the waitress acted like she was put out to even talk to us, she was rude and unprofessional. I've seen people do volunteer work with a better work ethic. That being said, the busboys that we had were amazing. Their service helped redeem the place a little. Not enough, sadly to ever go back...

They may as well change the name to "Palapas Diner"! The service is pathetic! I get better service at The Red Robin! Talk about attitude from waiters and waitresses. The guys that come by and replenish chips and salsa are the only bright moments of service to be had. There is absolutely no such thing as friendly service at this restaurant from the staff! It seems that a good smack in the face of complacency has a tight grip on this Aptos institution. Many of the waiters and waitresses have been there forever and it totally shows! As far as the food is concerned, I must admit it is mostly very good. The entrees are plentiful and creative and the kitchen does a fantastic job in preparation. Unfortunately, if you order an appetizer you better eat it fast because they will bring the food out to you moments later! Oh yea, you may need to ask for plates for your appetizers because the "attitude factor" seems to get in the way of expected food service etiquette. If you can get the past the poor service you will enjoy this place!
