Rock of the Sea Santa Cruz - Summary:
(from metrosantacruz.com) - Big brick patio fronts on Portola Drive (formerly known as East Cliff Drive) just a few minutes south of Pleasure Point. At Rock of The Sea, you'll find a decidedly Mexican flavor, with lots of seafood specialties like ceviche and Camarones a la Diabla. Exotic ingredients abound, tucked into familiar favorites like flautas, quesadillas, tacos and burritos, or even Eggs Benedict. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be enjoyed outside, with or without that shot of Don Julio or an ice-cold Pacifico.

Positive Rock of the Sea Santa Cruz Review:
When the "where do you want to go, I don't know where do you want to go" conversation comes up we tend to end up at The Rock more often than not. The margaritas are great. The food is pretty good, not the best by far, but consistent so we never leave disappointed. Hence our nickname - The Rock. Word of caution though.... get in and out by 8:30 or 9 at the latest on weekends as they rent the place out for private parties and start bringing in the equipment and testing the sound system whether there are still dinner customers or not. Kind of annoying but now that we know, we just don't go here if we get a late start.

Negative Rock of the Sea Santa Cruz Review:
Great location & patio...but, the menu and food are really lacking. Like another said, there are wayyy too many good mexican restaurants in the area to waste money here.
The menu seemed super minimal especially for vegetarians. We went on a Monday night to watch some sports...they do have tvs, but the atmosphere is pretty drab.

Average Rock of the Sea Santa Cruz Review:
Only been there once, so I'm no expert, but what on earth was this place before it was a Mexican restaurant? It smells like some Midwest, 1950s, Elk's Club hangout -- like the walls are filled with years of cigarette smoke. Eeeeww. The food was good, but it's hard to enjoy what you're eating when it's competing with what you're smelling. I'll give them another try after they've been there a while longer. Maybe the smells of good Mexican food will overpower the funk.
