Positive Sabieng Santa Cruz Review:

I really like Sabieng, the service is always good and it's nice and clean. I usually start with a Thai Iced Tea, which is a perfect and not too sweet. I also love the fresh spring rolls, the vegetable always taste fresh and the peanut dipping sauce is DELICIOUS! My favorite entrees are the yellow chicken curry, which has great flavor and the chicken thai style chow mein. The texture of the noodles is wonderful. I would recommend this place, although it's a little pricey, the portions are pretty good. Also, the fried banana with ice cream is wonderful! Also, you can order online and pick up, which is nice for night in.

Negative Sabieng Santa Cruz Review:

Since I've been living in SC, I've been craving for some papaya salad for awhile. I ordered a medium and a spicy papaya salad and it was not spicy at all. I was rather disappointed because the size of the shredded papaya was more like it was shaved off. A strand of papaya was almost the size of a piece of a fry. The papaya tasted like it was made with water, lemon and pepper. This ruined my experience with Sabieng. Maybe I'll try something else in the future.

Average Sabieng Santa Cruz Review:

This place is fine. It's probably the best Thai food right now in the westside and downtown Santa Cruz area but that's not saying much. It does all the standards of restaurant Thai food reasonably well, but I find that some of the dishes are too sweet. Their peanut sauce is tooth-achingly sweet, it actually grosses me out. However all of the other Thai places I've been to in Santa Cruz (Thai Orchid, Pacific Thai, etc.) are guilty of oversweetness. I think it's just what most American palates like.

You can ask for hot sauce and they will give you a little stand with crushed chili sauce, ground toasted chilis, and pickled jalapenos.

Prices aren't too bad, service is mediocre. Expect to be treated mostly like you are in the way. They do takeout, which is nice for cold rainy nights.

Bottom line if you want Thai and you don't want to leave Santa Cruz, go here. If you are not from around here, you can get better Thai elsewhere.
