The Farm Bakery Aptos - Summary:

(from Santa Cruz .com) - The cement floor and pitched open-beamed ceiling engender a barnlike feel, but thankfully the likeness ends there. Mexican folk art warms the walls, while sturdy and comfortable farmhouse tables and chairs fill the dining area behind the gift shop, where one can find beautiful books, jewelry and home décor as well as droll novelties like Jesus pencil toppers and Mary Magdalena matches. Not that there's time to shop while waiting for food here; it's brought out with bustling efficiency and a warm smile.

The days start early and end early here, but you can get three square meals and then some starting with breakfast at 6:30am weekdays. Quiche is a specialty here, with eight varieties offered daily, most of them vegetarian and all of them savory and delicious. All breads used in the cafe are baked on-site and are also available for purchase. Customers can take home farm seed and polenta loaves, country French or Mediterranean baguettes, rosemary deep dish or vegetable foccacias, and cinnamon, lemon, pumpkin or blueberry bread. Among the lunch offerings is a spread of soups, sandwiches and salads as well as savory tarts and lasagna. Dinner entrees are also offered, but the Farm closes at 7pm every night except Sunday (and then it's 6pm), which makes dinner an early affair.

My vision of mealtime on the farm evokes images of hearty, simple and toothsome fare, straightforward and economical, amid modest yet comfortable surroundings, and the Farm fills the bill. - Denise Vivar, photo by Nikki Bowen

Positive The Farm Aptos Review:

It's like they invented the fruit tart. This place has been such a staple for a long time. They do what they do so well, and I love sitting in their dining room with a cup of coffee, a pastry, and some friends. AWESOME gift shop, Magnolia Road. Plus, local art. One of my favorite places.

Negative The Farm Aptos Review:

food so blah, bland, poor-quality and overpriced:
portions were dinky, tri-tip was one thin slice, quiche was served small and broken, fruit salad was a few pieces of apple, and the grilled eggplant was served cold and slimy. the service was rude... but...

the manager of the retail shop was CRAZY. she approached me, and was mean, aggressive and non-sensical. i will never return.

-Chica C., Santa Cruz, CA

Okay, in all seriousness...I am from Aptos and have been to the Farm many times and I have to say that all in all it is a pure letdown.  First, the owner, Beth is basically a witch.  She is so mean to the workers here and her politeness is purely in-existent.  I have received sandwiches with mold on them and my coffee is constantly cold.  I think the farm HAS potential to be amazing, but only if it was under different ownership.  The system is horrible because workers take orders and then have to complete them before helping the next, creating huge lines of irritated customers.  The only good thing about them is their tarts and the lovely workers that make the best of their miserable jobs.

Average The Farm Aptos Review:

I love coming here everytime we visit Santa Cruz which is once or twice a year. The fruit tart here is awesome!! I only give 4 stars because of the price. But the food quality is good.
